On Friday, April 1, Coconino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue conducted a Preventative Search and Rescue (PSAR) event at Lake View Elementary School in Page. One hundred eighty kindergarten children were taught how Search and Rescue is there to help them when needed. The team conducted interactive demonstrations on searching, boat safety, the capabilities of the K9 team and Hug-A-Tree.
On April 26th, we received a note from one of the teachers about the success of our teaching Hug-A-Tree at the school. One of the children who had attended the PSAR program was found by the police, sitting on the ground outside a building in town. The child told the officer that he was lost and had remembered that if he was lost he was to sit down and wait until he was found. This situation demonstrates the positive outcomes that come from CCSAR’s community PSAR activities.
