The Mounted Team, one of several specialized teams within the Search and Rescue Unit, consists of riders who maintain their own mounts and transportation and who have the experience and the commitment to offer their equestrian skills to Coconino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue.
All Mounted volunteers must complete the CCSSAR New Member Academy before being accepted into the team. Once they have completed the Academy, Mounted Team members will be on call to assist in a variety of missions, including search and rescue operations, evidence searches and preventative search and rescue (PSAR), as well as occasional public events and parades.
Mounted Team trainings are provided quarterly, with additional training available so each member can continue to improve and hone his or her skills and have the experience to be able to ride with unknown mounts or other search and rescue units. Occasional mock searches are conducted to make everyone comfortable using the skills and tools they have learned while in the saddle. Continuous trainings are required to be “mission ready” and are offered on a variety of time tables.
