The Coconino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue unit implemented unmanned aerial systems (UAS), or sometimes referred to as “drones,” technology in April 2018 with a private donation of a DJI Phantom 4. In November 2018, with the help of a grant provided by the Arizona Community Foundation, the unit purchased two DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise UAS for use in search and rescue operations.
Blue Ridge, AZ – The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office recently conducted a search and rescue operation over a five-day period for two lost persons east of the Hutch Mountain area. One person was located alive (a 35-year-old female of Winslow, AZ), the other person was located deceased (38-year-old Ryan Long of Leupp, AZ).
Flagstaff, AZ – An injured hiker was rescued off Humphreys Peak by Coconino County Search and Rescue and Arizona Snowbowl.
Flagstaff, AZ – On November 10, 2018 at approximately 2:45 pm, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a climbing accident at Oak Creek Vista off of State Route 89A.
On October 21 at approximately 2:53 pm the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, responded to Mount Elden Trail and Sunset Trail for the report of an injured adult female hiker incapable of extricating herself.
On September 9, 2018 at approximately 1:20 PM the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit responded with the Flagstaff Fire Department and Guardian Medical Transport to a climbing accident at the climbing area known as The Pit which is accessed from the Canyon Vista Campground
